I don't fault you for not understanding the historic context of that statement. This should help you to understand what our parents (African Americans at DU in our 30's and older) experienced as children in the Jim Crow Regime. Jim Crow was the regime used by white people to inflict pain and misery on black Americans prior to the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts.

You should have learned about the March from Selma in school. Someone thought it wasn't necessary - that we were 'post racial' and equality was a reality.

I'm sorry - but that's simply not true.
