Years ago when I was driving a lot I checked out tapes and CD's at the library - until I had listened to all of them I was interested in. My library now has downloadable books for free for 2 weeks, but, again, not many I really care for, and anything good is on a long waiting list, (I mean, like, months).

I have tried Amazon's Audiobooks, but can't get it to work on my IPad or IPhone either.

Audible has a terrific inventory. I haven't found them to not have anything I was looking for. Plus, they have free "channels" with news, various comedy podcasts, etc.. And, you can return for credit books you do not like, which I have done several times. Also, they have regular sales with books for less than $5.

I started using AppleItunes to download books first, before joining Audible. I think they are more expensive than Audible, if you listen a lot.
