How moon night got to #189.

when I was a kid I was s subscriber to moon knight from 1980. About two or three years later I got a letter saying they were sorry it was canceled and they switched my subscription to something else. About three years later the first issue of fist of konshu showed up unexpectedly in my mail, and it continued for a while. I lost touch but I know there were different iterations in to the 2000s. But #189 would be like 16 years, I can not believe there has been a steady run from 2001. Did they just keep the numbering consistent from the 1980s? I really have no idea how the numbering works with series that come and go, but I feel like many of those issues from the 2000s had different title names.

ETA in 2016 there was a moon night #1 for the series restart
