Melky sets Giants record for hits in May... [View all]

With his eighth-inning single to right field Tuesday night, Melky Cabrera established a San Francisco-era record for most base hits in the month of May with 50.

Willie Mays had held the mark with 49 hits in May of 1958.

Up next, the single-month record of Randy Winn's 51 hits, accomplished in September of 2005.

Melky is now batting .376, he's already had 3 4 hit games and leads all of MLB in hits. Meanwhile, the pitcher he was traded for, Jonathan Sanchez, is on the DL with an ERA of 6.75 and a WHIP of 1.86..

I'll go out on a limb and say Sabean and the Giants got the best of this one..
