Bama better win by at least 20 points [View all]
I think Alabama is the better team. I have personal affiliation with Alabama. I have no anti-Bama prejudice and LSU, as a football program, means nothing to me...
But unless Alabama utterly humiliates LSU then I'm going to consider LSU the national champion. (Not that anyone will weigh what some crackpot thinks when deciding who to hand the trophy to.)
If Bama wins then you have two teams that went 1-1 versus each other and LSU will have a better record, a tougher schedule (in non LSU-vs-Alabama games) and won the freaking SEC conference. (Alabama's best argument for being the best team in the country would be that they had to play LSU twice and since LSU is obviously the best team in the country Bama would have had the harder schedule.)
Georgia isn't all of that but LSU did have to play Georgia and risk everything while Alabma took 45 days off. That's an extra win against a top 20 team. I can't grok losing your conference division as being a fast-track to the national championship.
Now, what if LSU had lost to Georgia? Alabama would have gone to #1 and LSU would have hung onto #2 and we would have the same national championship game between two teams from the same conference, neither of which won the conference.
WTF? (But still the best two teams in the nation -- I am not questioning that.)
All of that said, I expect Alabama to win handily and LSU probably would have beat Washington and OK State. Yes, these are most likely the two best teams and it's the best championship game of a set of bad options.
But still, it's a hell of a wierd situation.
