I don't believe it either. My biggest reason, despite the journeyman on ESPN saying otherwise, is that Aaron Rodgers says he likes the footballs at the upper end. So, either Rodgers is willfully trying to put his team at a competitive disadvantage, or 2 psig doesn't matter. Can't be both.

And, (iirc the range is 12.5 to 14.5) i can't accept that 12.3 (0.2 psig below the lower limit) is an advantage but 2.0 psig is not a disadvantage.

Lastly, i think the 12.5 to 14.5 came from a design engineer at Wilson who told the league what the bladder was designed to do for optimal performance. Since i doubt that engineer is an NFL quarterback, the values are arbitrary.
