Tyler Summitt has resigned as Louisiana Tech women's basketball coach after only two seasons, apologizing for a relationship he was involved in through a statement released by the university.

School officials announced Summitt's resignation Thursday.

Summitt says he is "profoundly disappointed" in himself for a "relationship" that hurt the people he loves and respect most. Summitt, who got married in 2013, says it is best he resigns from his job at Louisiana Tech.

He also asked for people to respect the privacy of his family as they deal with the "difficult situation" he created.

The son of Hall of Fame coach Pat Summitt, he was hired in April 2014 after two seasons as assistant coach at Marquette. Now 25, Summitt went 16-15 in his first season and 14-16 this season.
