Lately our winters have been warm but a couple of years ago we had a very cold spell and the nectar would freeze after a few hours. I got up at dawn and tried to get an unfrozen feeder up for them but one morning I could see one of the birds trying to get the frozen nectar. I hurried out there knowing he probably didn't have much time after going thru the night. He perched on a bush about 3 feet away until I was done replacing the nectar. I had two feeders that I rotated every couple of hours, thawing one while the other was out there.
