After closing up my brother's camp for the winter, we decided to take one last canoe paddle before putting it in storage.

Gorgeous sunrise.

On our way back were heard some Canada geese - and they were accompanied by some larger long-necked birds.

We didn't have binocs and really couldn't tell what they were - until they started calling - Sandhill Cranes!

They are very rare in Maine although they have regular sightings throughout the state.

The pair of cranes circled us for several minutes calling, and it almost seemed they were going to land in the marsh - but circled out with the geese.

My first Maine Crane.

Finest Kind.
