They have such clown like antics; dancing, hopping, flapping around while they are actually hunting. The way they act scares small fish into motion so the bird can find them. Great white egrets on the other hand stalk slowly with their heads held high for a good view until they find prey and slowly draw their necks into a coiled S as the make the last few feet to be within reach. Snowy egrets just run around seemingly randomly striking at whatever they find.

As a wildlife photographer one has to know when something's about to happen before it happens--awfully difficult with reddish and snowy egrets!
