2. Researchers have been banding hummers in the Southeast in the winter

Fred Bassett, Doreen Cubie, and Fred Dietrich travel around, trapping and banding winter hummers and are finding that many hummers that summer in the West are coming to the SE for the winter rather than flying south.

Check their advice and if you see hummers in the winter, contact them so they can trap, identify and band the birds.
