In reply to the discussion: Ok, this should be fun for one and all! Are you smarter than an atheist? A religious quiz [View all]Speck Tater
(10,618 posts)42. Hehe. I know what you mean.
Some of my relatives get offended when I refer to "Christian Mythology". On the other hand, as a Buddhist Atheist myself, I have no qualms whatsoever about referring to "Buddhist Mythology". After all, regardless of the fact that his methods of meditation have practical value, there are really no "facts" about the life and times of the Buddha, only mythology, and it would be dishonest to refer to it by any other name. Even the most "authentic" of the Buddhist texts (the Pali Canon) weren't committed to writing until 450 years after the supposed date of the Buddha's death. So it's mythology, plain and simple.

OP
Oh I see - this is like the "are you smarter than the big sky omni-person believers" quiz.

Got that one, but then I'd just finished reading some Peter Kingsley so it was still fresh.

That is the truth. It also just proves once again that DUer's are smarter than the average person!

32/32 for me as well. I too tried on a fair few religions (and studied more) before I gave it all up

32 out of 32. I'm surprised that the average among various groups is only around 50%...
