The church building never belonged to them in the first place, but they spent 11 years of their lives to be allowed to decide what should be allowed to happen to it? It's a building. Get over it.

And this...

The parishioners plan to start their own independent Catholic church, outside the archdiocese, he said.

"We will basically be transitioning into an all-inclusive, independent Catholic church that welcomes all," he said.

So they sat around for 11 years begging for their former church to be reinstated, a church that would have been nothing like what they now say they want? What they want is not a "Catholic" church in any way, shape or form. Yeah, they want a church with all of the "good" Catholic stuff, but none of the bad stuff, but it comes as a package...that's what the RCC is in black and white. If they wanted to start their own independent church, why didn't they just have the balls to do it 11 years ago?

This is the kind of nutbaggery that religion inspires in people.
