8. Not to defend Scientology, but

in fairness, the Russian Orthodox Church believed that children must confess their sins starting at age 3, according to my late mother, who was raised Russian Orthodox.

She thought this was ridiculous, remarking that kids that young don't have "sins" other than perhaps potty accidents, which are not sins anyway. I have no idea whether this is still true, but it was true in the 1920s in Estonia. One of her grandfathers was an RO priest - they are allowed to marry.

As for Scientologists, I think they are totally warped and I don't blame anyone from trying to save their child from the cult's influence.
