It's a grainy b/w photo.
Middle School kids are 13-5 years old.
in 2010, they were using digital cameras.
How did a grainy b/w photo not catch the eye of the moderator (presumably an adult) as odd?
In the most generous reading I can give, the moderator is lazy.
As to the kids, most generous is they thought it was funny. The most likely (imo) it was done to incite others
