2. Sub atomic particle research is important

Fundamental research of particle physics is critical to understanding our universe. Remarkably, by understanding the smallest elemental structures, scientists are able to develop theories about galactic structures and the nature of the universe.

It's unnerving that conservative anti-science legislators killed the super collider that was to be built in the United States. The knowledge that could have been produced would have been equal to- or exceeded- the technologies developed from the space program.
