Horses in the Americas are supposed to have become extinct more than 11K years ago:

They were then reintroduced by the Spaniards.

So I gather that the paintings of the horses must have been made after the Spaniards had moved into SA?

The Yukon horse mtDNA is supposed to be very similar to the European horse.
