Atheist Christmas- Last Christmas, I had been out of work for six months for the second time in two years.
The whole idea of even having Christmas was not something that I was especially looking forward to.
I started writing about what still felt good and solid about the Holiday and what didn't. At this point in my life I can still pretend and lie, but I can’t pretend and lie to myself.
This song ISN’T and attack on the way anyone else celebrates the holiday. It’s just a heads-up to those who are agnostic and a-theist to enjoy the holiday anyway they want to. Find what’s good and true for you and make it your own. Dare I say “let your freak flag fly.
I was recently asked if Atheist Christmas was somewhat of an oxymoron. I thought about it for a minute and concluded that the word Christmas was a like Xerox, Kleenex, Coke, or Kool-Aid in that the brand had become so ubiquitous that the word represents the thing, even though a Xerox is really a office machine company, Coke is a cola, Kleenex is a facial tissue, and Christmas is a winter holiday. Growing up, I knew Jews who had “Christmas trees.” I love Christmas, it’s just that mine is an A-theist Christmas.
This is really my attempt at 'can't we all just get along'
Regards,
RC
