The Hollie Point thing.... I liked to it because it is (was) insanely delicate and tedious. It's basically crocheting with a tiny needle and a single thin linen thread. The pattern is rendered by dropping a stitch in the right place. Go ahead, stay up all night doing it by candle light!

There's this amazing Dutch knitted petticoat from the early 18th century that is, well, amazing... since, as you know, the thing has to be worked out horizontal line of stitches by horizontal line of stitches.
