3. On the subject of her self-diagnosis,

I'm not sure.

But when offered treatment and medication, she refused to accept them. And self-diagnosed herself as needing more religion.

There are many sects which reject medical intervention on whole myriads of problems, including and probably especially mental health problems. Might she have been taking advice from spiritual counselors? No mention of church affiliation in the reports I have read so far. That leaves me plenty of room to speculate, I guess.
