Good question. For whatever reason there seems to be no shortage of them. It's the kind of asshole that wants to spread their misery and malcontentedness to everyone else, and they have found the tool to do so. I think it also satisfies their desire for the deceit and manipulation of others. A successful alert gives them a short rush of enjoyment they have trouble finding anywhere else.
