We atheists are supposed to be the Stalinists, aren't me? I'm confuzzled...

Disappearing people out of photos was a common tactic of Uncle Joe & Co. See the fascinating book "The Commissar Vanishes" by David King for a couple hundred examples.

In the photo below, Comrade Marchenko ends up in the dustbin...or airbrush...of history:
