However christianity has a history of being hyper-violent, just see the inquisition. I think the aversion to violence is due to the fact that the current society christianity must inhabit has this aversion to violence. As society advanced the religion was forced to advance, kicking and screaming, with it. It is very clear to me that the fundamentalist faction of christianity is actively striving to take us back to that level of society that the inquisition was considered acceptable. They are doing this with the silent consent of their moderate fellows.

Islam unfortunately originates from an society who's advancement was held back by prolonged poverty and the ensuing desperation of the people. For them violence is far less taboo due to this.
