The extent that the NT is an elaboration of the intertestamental literature is remarkable.

Enoch, otherwise only a rather small scale figure (although very righteous,) grows in stature to become an angel.

It's only a step beyond that to a righteous man becoming a god.

And naturally the concept would be abhorrent to many Jews. And so it goes.
