12. Sorry you had to endure that!

What a terrible thing for a child to go through. Your childhood sounds brutal!

I grew up in the 40s and 50s, and I remember classmates of mine coming to school with bruises given them by their parents, and I had a few grade-school teachers who walloped kids for minor things like chewing gum in class or giving an incorrect answer when called upon in oral quizzes. My parents didn't believe in physical punishment, or any other kind, really, except that my mom wouldn't let me go anywhere but school for a week if I played hooky from Sunday school. Our church was all sweetness and love, so I didn't suffer real abuse there - just perceived abuse by having to attend. I can't imagine a turd of a movie like that being shown in our church. It's hideous!
