while our area doesn't really get hit by lake effect I've learned that if you want to go into Watertown or, especially if you want to go down I81 to Syracuse, checking the weather first during snow season is always wise.

OTOH it's a gorgeous area of NYS during the nicer weather which thankfully there's quite a lot of.
