We're planning to sail south to the Florida Keys from NYC this fall. Obviously, we're gathering a ton of weather information. The hurricane season lasts until November but late season storms can be devastating, (i.e., The Perfect Storm or Hurricane Sandy). Weather monitoring will be a constant for us with 1/2/3 day plans with safe havens to get to if the weather turns ugly.

Your house was probably built really well by accomplished carpenters. Back then, they didn't cut as many corners as today. Too often, modern construction techniques cannot stand the tests of time.

Regardless, safety always comes first.
