(10,751 posts)...how deeply being anti-government has been embedded into the psyche of Americans.
Americans, for example, deeply believe that government is always inefficient and that private enterprise is always efficient.
Never mind the myriad counter-examples available to debunk both of those suppositions. Of course, sometimes government is indeed inefficient -- but the same people who think so, would not think of criticizing the worst example of government inefficiency, which is of course our military, who cannot account for billions upon billions of dollars (maybe even a trillion or more). And sometimes private enterprise is indeed very efficient.
I am all for private enterprise. But it is not the answer to everything. People who think it is, tend to be ideologues. For such people, no evidence will ever suffice to shake their convictions. Nor do they care how much "collateral damage" occurs due to their insistence that all things should be privatized, including health insurance, schools and prisons.
They are so sadly misinformed. I had a Facebook exchange the other day with someone who was trying to dis the post office. I asked them if, as someone who loved the Constitution, they were aware that a postal service was mentioned in the Constitution. Crickets.
