(687 posts)The critical commentary against Sanders so far has been very lame and fairly tame -- more like distortions than whoppers.
But the whoppers will be coming -- no matter what comes from Hillary, Sanders will be facing the biggest gale of bullshit in the history of the Republic, thanks to Citizens United. Because a lot of friends and adversaries alike tend to be literal minded, I am going to switch to italics with the following example of Karl Rove style lies:
Imagine an ad, paid for by a SuperPAC with secret donors. We meet a 40 year old African American woman named Alice. She looks into the camera and says, "Bernie Sanders is my father. He refuses to acknowledge me and he treated my mother like she was a dog. Don't be fooled by all his Socialist politics -- he abandoned my mother and he abandoned me. He is a disgraceful human being."
[Anybody remember, "Ma, Ma, where's my Pa? Gone to the White House ha ha ha."?]
Next, you meet Rabbi David Jerome, retired, formerly of Montpelier. "Yes, Bernie Sanders attended our temple when he was the mayor. He was active. We all thought it was odd how he was always volunteering for committees and always involved in Temple activities. But then one day, our bank account was emptied and that horrible man embezzled every penny we had. We tried to get the local authorities to prosecute -- but he is a clever man, that Bernie, and he was able to use his political influence to kill the investigation into his own crime."
[Anybody remember the Swift Boat story? A Lieutenant in the Navy conned the Pentagon into giving him some medals.]
Why anybody would be proud of this kind of politics is behind my comprehension, but us Sanders supporters need to get emotionally ready for a lot more of it and it will not be pleasant.
