Sure, I'm an Elitist and a Cynic. But the "Democratic" part is an adjective, "Socialist" is the noun. That gets lost when your "Undecided Voter" has the attention span of a gnat and a political education that stopped in 11th grade, if they even paid attention then.

I'm as Democratic Socialist as anyone on DU, but I'm realistic about what the perception of any kind of Socialism is in this country. You said it yourself, it's been long-vilified - >100 years of well-funded propaganda, half the time from the Government itself.

Propaganda works - just look at who controls Congress and >50% of State Legislatures.

It should be part of the calculus that Registered Democrats use when choosing their party's nominee. It doesn't help to stick your head in the sand.
