32. I really have to take issue with your comments that....

...."older folks are more likely to have money, power, and privilege." Over the last three decades, companies have been working to shed old workers, especially those 'grandfathered' in to pensions and retirement health plans; that's especially true over the last decade. A lot of those older workers have been unemployed for years; some of them will never work again.

Believe me, I know. Our CEO froze pension plans, eliminated retirement health insurance and began massive layoffs. I was laid off in 2005. I managed to hang on with low-paying jobs, a year as a contractor, and a year on my savings until I could collect full SS. At that, I'm better off than most. I actually get a pension, although it's far less than it would have been if I could have been allowed to work and accrue benefits a few more years.
