15. They know it, deep down,

but their conscious mind can't and won't allow them to believe it. Their days ARE numbered. They're like Kevin Bacon at the end of Animal House, jumping up and down and screaming "All is Well!!!!" at the advancing stampede.

A key remaining question is whether it will come to THIS or not. They certainly deserve no less.
