If a Republican tries to, say, kill Social Security, they will face lock-step opposition from the Democrats and some opposition from Republicans. And it goes nowhere.

If a Democrat tries to do that, they face split opposition from Democrats, and lock-step support from Republicans.

To dismantle the New Deal and similar programs, they need a Republican Congress, and a Democrat in the White House who will support it with false claims (ie. "Dignity of Work&quot .
