After running on the "segregation, now, segregation tomorrow, and segregation forever" platform he was shot. Shirley Chilsholm visited him in the hospital and they joined forces to work on economically liberal policies.

She and president Obama showed more generosity and forgivness than I think I would be able to. That does not absolve Wallace or Clinton of their past bigotry. Quite the opposite actually. When it comes to the Clintons it just shows that they are exploitive and flexible in their racism.
