Regarding the decision to go, well his is an unusual election campaign to begin with, and the priorities driving his political career are atypical of many also. My guess is he really wants to be there, and thinks it will further inform his wold view. Not being an idiot, no doubt he also feels that this on balance will not hurt his campaign by attending this conference for a day. He will not drop off the media map because of it, perhaps the opposite, so why not take part in an international event so related to his core convictions with some other wold leaders present also?
