In reply to the discussion: How many mulligans does Clinton get for racist jokes? [View all]Chan790
(20,176 posts)After WJC's BLM comments earlier this week (or was it last week, the days keep flying by) I think the biggest issue isn't that the Clintons are racist...because I think everybody has some race issues they need to work through, whether it's racist beliefs, confrontation of their privilege, confrontation of unquestioned racial assumptions, or confrontation of the inadvertent or avoidable racist consequence and outcomes of their actions...I honestly don't think they're all that comparatively racist contrasted with the average person.
It's the tone-deafness, their unwillingness to even recognize they have white privilege, and from that, their lack of awareness to how much they are part of the problem. A lot of us are part of the problem of racism in America, but few of us seem as willfully blind to their role in it as HRC and WJC, nor have as much influence for change, nor have squandered so much influence or have used it instead to make the problem worse.
Do I think Hillary Rodham Clinton, William Jefferson Clinton or Bill DiBlasio are particularly racist? No.
Do I think each in their own way has harmed minority communities with the things they have done in power? Absolutely.
