(928 posts)My take on the this whole "Popegate" Hillary supporters are so worked up about is about the same as what I believe Bernie's take on this is. He got an opportunity to do something most people don't get to do. He got to meet The Pope.
I take the whole trip as something he saw as a once in a life time experience. One you simply don't pass up, regardless of what else is going on in your life. He admires this Pope, why wouldn't he do this? Nothing political.
I believe Bernie doesn't take becoming President for granted, knowing if it doesn't happen he may not get another invite.
He was invited to speak on something that came about as an anniversary, again not an everyday thing.
This has never been an endorsement of Bernie in my mind, but an opportunity that came about because the message going out across the world, one which Bernie is one of the people sending that message. The only other politician from our country beating that same drum is Elizabeth Warren. Being this is the Catholic Church, I don't see a woman being invited to speak at the conference.
And the nastiness being spewed by the Hillary camp over this is reminiscent of RW hatefulness.
