Congress was told that the Iraq War would pay for itself. That was the neocon mantra, as expressed by Wolfowitz. It was a bright, shining lie and no one except the taxpayer and thousands of American soldiers paid for that lie.

Magically, hundreds of billions were found for the War on Terror. Few cared about the expense.
