You clearly know nothing about campaigning. Let me tell you some very basic things about it. When you volunteer for a campaign, making phone calls or knocking on doors, you are told simply to make contact with committed voters. You are specifically told not to waste time arguing or trying to change anyone's mind. If someone tells you they're voting for Trump or Bernie, you wish them a nice day, mark them as a Trump/Bernie supporter, and move on to the next person on your list. The campaign does not waste further resources on that person. As the campaign progresses, your list contains fewer and fewer people who are not already supporting your candidate. So, telling people that you don't support Hillary and won't be voting for her tells them that they shouldn't waste any further time on you. The article you objected to is therefore totally on the mark. If anything, it's being kind by explaining to you something you would have known already if you were more politically active.
And you are exactly right that I am doing something that the campaign would advise strongly against: don't waste time arguing with people. And that is precisely what I will do now. This was enjoyable, but it's now time to move on to other and better things. Have a nice day.
