(1,748 posts)Those are the places where I've always argued we can't afford to be too progressive because of the electorate - if the majority of democratic and independent voters won't back a more progressive Dem then that's just how it is - we get a moderate or even a centrist.
But the party has to stop openly sabotaging progressives. No one can seriously say the party has not intentionally hamstrung progressive primary challengers in areas where they would have been competitive. I've been telling people for years that we should all just suck it up and try to change the party from the inside, but I can't do it any longer and that's a very distressing thought. I doubt I'll even bother going to the state convention this year, though I was looking forward to it at one time.
The DNC has not been even-handed in this primary and anyone who thinks that's a recipe for increasing the numbers of the rank and file is simply fooling themselves.
