2016 Postmortem
In reply to the discussion: The Clinton Foundation: A DU Collaborative Analysis [View all]2banon
(7,321 posts)72. I didn't follow the Benghazi hearings...
Context: It was quite apparent to me that it was a GOP witch hunt displaying extreme hypocrisy. Monstrous, evil shit happens in all Wars and "interventions" of choice. But it's a policy the GOP embraced with great gusto under Bush/Cheney. The difference between a Bush/Cheney monstrous evil war and HRC monstrous evil war was obviously partisan. So I figured it ended with a "nothing burger" for that very reason.
But I didn't know this:
One major feature of FBI investigations has been completely ignored. The bureau normally interviews all the key participants, and it knows the answers before it asks the questions. That should mean closed-door sessions with Abedin, Mills, Sullivan, and, ultimately, Hillary Clinton and perhaps Bill Clinton (if the foundations activities are at issue). Failing to interview them would replicate the botched Benghazi investigation by Adm. Mike Mullin and Ambassador Thomas Pickering. The FBI wont repeat that mistake or subject itself to the withering criticism.
A few days ago I read Hillary was asked by the FBI to meet with them to answer some questions they have, presumably regarding the email servers and whatever else they're investigating, but that her attorney stated she is under no obligation to meet with them to answer any questions. Whether it ends there, or will they have to serve her with a subpoena is up for speculation at this point as far as I can tell.
It is my opinion, the main reason why Ms. Clinton reneged on the California Debate with Sanders, was so she didn't have to face questions by the moderator on this matter.
The timing of the State Dept's report was damning and could have put her on the spot to lie, and thereby incriminate herself in the expected legal proceedings at some point between now and the G.E. A candidate can hardly plead the 5th during a campaign debate.
However, how will her campaign avoid these questions in future debates in the General? How those answers impact her legal proceedings on this or any other matter being investigated (still unknown to the public) is a question no one in their camp seems to have thought through at this juncture.
