(15,882 posts)might be more inclined to see them as people.
They all had their moments, faults, strengths.
We had protesters turn on each other, absolutely. There were people being killed, serious times. The person next to you might well be FBI feeding you a plan to blow something up.
Overall we had a lot more security, free time, hope to work with. You could get an education and a job at nearly any university for almost nothing. Today we are at the tail end of a financial theft, tens of millions of Americans falling off the cliff in various forms, 40 years of no longer investing in education, mental health, etc, aggressive wars we start with lies and a world that is beginning to really dislike what we are doing.
And when people want to talk to folks that should be on their side, they find them writing bills to send their jobs overseas, to cut their food stamps, to make the bank$ters that stole their homes richer. No help there, and certainly none from the fascists across the aisle.
I wouldn't be surprised if they interrupted Jesus.
So they are scared, trying to figure things out. I wouldn't say no class, I would say untrained, and facing things they weren't prepared for. (There likely are some disruptions, but this isn't about them). There are people who care very deeply, but see the people around them screwing a lot of people while talking practicality, a lot of their neighbors hurting, and excuses where there should be relief.
We had the benefit of thousands of people teaching each other to see each other as people, to look a little higher.
, and opening our minds to a lot of new things. People just flopped down and started blowing a joint and talking.
And while the talking went on, we didn't fight.
