9. I heard Luntz say something amazing the first time I met him

It was in late December 2000, and it was in a candid, and completely off the record setting. I guess I can say this now, 16 years later. He admitted outright that if all had been fairly handled, that Al Gore was probably the legitimate winner of the 2000 election. Not that he was in the least interested in getting the SCOTUS decision reversed, but he did admit that the loser of the 2000 election was about to take office.

He knows the score more often than he admits, but his job and his money depend on fooling people, so he's not going to admit the obvious unless it's obvious to everyone else, too.
