He got such tremendous blowback from repubs when he didn't call for prosecution when he first looked at the emails, that I think he was just trying not to get accused of hiding something when this device came on the radar..

I am willing to cut him some slack in remembrance of his midnight ride to the hospital to keep Gonzales and Andrew Card from strong-arming Ashcroft about the domestic surveillance program.

We will see how quickly he works to clean up the mess. I suspect it came as a bit of a surprise to him. It iis hard to imagine the depths of perfidy out there if you are essentially honest.
