and the modern day Dem party stands with historically oppressed groups, who aligned with the party after the civil rights movement and various social movements (feminism, gay rights, etc) of the 60's and 70's.

Once that happened, many white voters fled the party for Nixon and Reagan, and for the most part, have voted GOP ever since.

It has nothing to do with economics and everything to do with white identity.
