It isn't like we execute politicians who don't do the lock step. The absolute worst that can happen is that they are not re-elected. And that is never a given. If I found it so intolerable to try to work with my party leaders, and I was against what they told me to do, I would welcome getting the hell out. And if I found that by standing up to them, I was still re-elected, that would give me more power to do what is right instead of what is commanded.
