2. Exactly what I was thinking

and, remember, that, as Republicans see it as "us vs. them (others)". If THEY are able to do something, their logic goes, anybody, regardless of their circumstances, past, parents, etc. can too. They fail to understand that everybody's circumstances are different and that not everybody is brought into this world under the best circumstances and all of the advantages that they might have been given. Everybody's starting block is the same, so they think. Also, they fail to understand that the proper human reaction to people in need is to show them some compassion and help them (at least that's the "Christian" thing to do and aren't they forever telling us ours is a "Christian" nation? ). Their reaction to human suffering is pretty much like they are standing on a deck of a ship and somebody has fallen overboard and they decide to just sit there and refuse to throw the victim a lifesaver because they think, after all, maybe that person should've been more careful and now they should just hurry up and drown. Maybe not all of them are quite THAT heartless but it's not much better in most cases when it comes to people they consider "unworthy" or "undeserving" of help for whatever rationalizations they come up with.
