The transistor craftily combined with other components allows the modern Know-Nothing party to spread their message of hate and fear to the masses with ease.
In the 1850's a snake oil salesman was forced to stand on a wooden box and reach, at best, a limited audience.
If they offended someone in the audience their they might be subjected to counter arguments sometimes in the form of overripe fruit.

Thanks to the transistor modern snake-oil salesmen such as Rush Limbaugh can reach masses of the stupid and violent in their homes or in their cars or even in their places of worship.
Cursing at the TV just doesn't have the same effect as a rotten tomato.

The transistor allows the modern Know-Nothing party to project images of the massive public support of their ideology.
