They're going over the tax returns and making sure they're clean.

That there's not a mistake that reduced Romney's taxes. Or something that could be restated to be less ... either incriminating or useful to mud-slingers.

I'd also think they're making sure that his and his wife's money and assets are separated and every return they release will cover just Romney, and just what must be construed as Romney's. Then he won't be hit for his wife's money--something that McCain was bad at avoiding but Kerry was good at avoiding. (McCain got nailed for his wife's houses; Kerry, not so much.)

There's also the blind trust business. * was nailed for not knowing he had logging-mill stock, IIRC, buried in a blind trust. Most don't know what a blind trust is, so it's easy to play to their ignorance.
