In reply to the discussion: Only 1,000 attend Clinton event [View all]Divernan
(15,480 posts)I posted the link and excerpt above, if you could have been bothered to read them. Here it is again. Now, try to pay attention. The link gives the time, address and even a map for directions, and THERE IS NO MENTION OF OR REQUEST FOR AN RSVP ! ! ! ! ! !
Given the HRC campaign's crack organization skills, the venue was downsized only the day before. Don't know how they got the word out about that - but even you must concede that would have been too late to request RSVPs and provide for Secret Service screening.
As a matter of fact, the news report stated that the Clinton campaign had paid for security services at the larger venue. Like, you know, man - the difference between federal government employees (Secret Service) and campaign-compensated local cops. Hillary has had problems with making that distinction in the past, I know. Again from the already posted link:
City Manager John Bohenko said the city billed Clintons campaign $3,656 for use of the field, police, public works and recreation department resources and that payment was received Thursday.

Official event
Hillary Clinton and U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen will kick-off New Hampshire Women for Hillary in Portsmouth on Saturday, September 5th.
Hillary will discuss the challenges that women world-wide still face, to mark the 20th Anniversary of her speech in Beijing, China, where she declared "human rights are women's rights and women's rights are human rights once and for all."
Jeanne Shaheen is the first woman in American history elected to serve as both a Governor and U.S. Senator. In both roles, her commonsense leadership has made a difference for New Hampshire.
So come join us on Saturday to hear from Hillary and Senator Shaheen!
That's pretty basic! That is not the same as her lah-di-dah, personally addressed, private INVITE ONLY fund raising soirees at gated estates.
You paint with a very broad brush: "People who see Clinton . . ." Let us consider her announcement rally at Roosevelt Island. People had been requested to RSVP. However, others were encouraged to show up, but with no guarantee of admission depending upon the size of the crowd. We all recall the photos of the huge, overflow area with big screen monitors - and not a person in them. Perhaps attendees had to pass through metal detectors - and I believe they were cautioned in public announcements as to what they should bring and not bring with them for screening purposes. According to your statement, there would have been Secret Service agents not only checking off an attendance list for some 5,000 people, but scrutinizing them one-on-one.
And recall that infamous time she marched along the street and her staff used a rope to hold the press at a "respectful" distance. Had everyone standing alongside the marching route RSVP-d to be on their public streets? Had the Secret Service checked off each and every one of them as being scrutinized. And yet they were "people who saw Clinton."
So everyone standing along the street when Clinton marched along passed Secret Service scrutiny. If by that, you meant that her Secret Service detail was eyeballing everyone - fine. Did they RSVP to stand on the sidewalks?
